The three virtues are beauty, truth and goodness. But would we even recognize beauty if we saw it?
You might have heard the talent of musical virtuoso Joshua Bell on the soundtrack of the 1998 movie “The Red Violin.” On January 9, 2007, he played before a capacity crowd at the Symphony Hall in Boston. Decent tickets for the event went for $100. Three days later, he played incognito in a subway station in Washington DC. Hardly anyone noticed and his open violin case gathered $32.17 for 43 minutes of playing.
If God were to appear in our midst and do something beautiful, would we even notice?
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him…
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:2, 5)
Farewell to Shadowlands 
I apologize for being contrarian, but I got a completely different message from the Joshua Bell story. Both the cultured rich and the lower class were touched by his beautiful music.
