The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:1-3)
At this point in human history, God’s plan for renewing and restoring all things gets kicked into high gear. The promise had always been present and was passed down from generation to generation, but now the means of delivering that promise began to take shape.
God’s plan was to create for Himself a new people whom He would bless and they, in turn, would become a Blessing People. Through this Blessing People, all families on earth will be blessed.

To begin this new Blessing People, God chose a very unlikely starting point: a childless couple beyond normal child-bearing years. God can bring something new and wonderful out of a situation that seem to be hopeless. He did it through Abram and Sarai, He did it on the shore of the Red Sea when His Blessing People were trapped between the water and Pharaoh’s army, and He did it early one Sunday morning inside a dark, cold tomb. And He will do it for you.
Years after His promise of blessing to Abram, God gave him and his wife a son named Isaac, who had a son name Jacob, who had 12 sons who become the forefathers of 12 tribes of a great nation. This nation was not great because of its size or power for it was a minor player on the world stage. This nation was great because it had something no other nation had, a relationship with the one, true God.
This relationship was not earned or deserved, it was a gift of grace bestowed by God on His chosen people. God did this so that they could be a light to the surrounding nations to show them that there was a God who loved them unconditionally and desired to bring them into His family where they would enjoy the peace, joy and contentment of His love, forgiveness and salvation. And this ongoing cycle of blessing was leading towards a fulfillment where the hiddenness of our life with God will be revealed for all to see and all things will be restored and renewed through God the Son, Jesus Christ.
You are standing at the intersection of God’s blessing love and a broken and hurting world. God has blessed you by grafting you into His Blessing People through His Son, Jesus. And now you can bless those around you by reflecting God’s healing love into the world.
You are blessed to be a blessing,
Dear God, thank you for making me part of Your Blessing People through Your Son, my Savior, Jesus. Help me to share Your blessings with others so they may know You and Your great love for them. Amen.
Great quick post! Thanks for sharing James.
